Kohl's 2013 Fall Collection

Catherine Malandrino's collection for DesigNation won't be out till September 27 but here is a sneak peek. This limited-edition collection will be available exclusively at Kohl's and Kohls.com in Fall 2013. 

The collection channels the romance of Paris. Malandrino has described Paris as a city where "poetry is in the air". She said in a recent press release,“From the lights and the architecture to the parks and the galleries, I found so much creative inspiration walking the streets of Paris,”. “My Kohl’s DesigNation collection showcases that experience with a perfect blend of romantic, elegant and Parisian style at an affordable price,” she explained. The designer draws inspiration from the City of Paris and French women. And evidently, it is a chic, minimalist yet feminine and empowering collection with a lot of black.

Every woman has a Parisian dream but if you can't go to Paris, bring Paris to you.

While collecting my VMA Red Carpet looks, I stumbled upon this Selena Gomez image and I instantly remembered that I had seen a similar dress on Deepika Padukone which I found later was also worn by Zoe Saldana.

Selena wore a Zuhair Murad Spring 2013 black dress to the Bilboard Music Awards to announce bestie Taylor Swift's '22' performance. Zoe and Deepika both wear a Prabal Gurung Fall 2012 dress. Zoe wore it to the CFDA accompanying the designer in June 2012 while Deepika wore it to the Filmfare Awards in January earlier this year.

Out of all the three looks, Deepika wins. And it is purely because of her hair and make up. With a plunging neckline, hair should always be pulled back but not too tight (like Zoe's hair) because the dress is figure fitting. It goes without saying that with a black gown you need some bold color (preferably red) lipstick. See how make up can make or break a look.

Who wore it better?

The gold spangled leopard printed Emanuel Ungaro dress Katy Perry wore to Sunday's VMA's was spotted quite sometime back. Supermodel Coco Rocha wore the same dress designed by Ungaro's Fausto Puglisi (looks like Coco loves him) to the red carpet at the Met Gala in May earlier this year.

While Coco's dress hit the floor, Katy's was just knee length. This one is a toughie. The knee length version with a higher thigh slit definitely looks more sexier. But, Katy's pulled back high pony tail and make up is disappointing. That's where Coco kills it. And yes, those boots too.

The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards took place on Sunday at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York. Here, we take a look at the VMA's Red Carpet to see who has impressed and who has not.

I have always loved the red carpet. And this time at 2013 MTV VMA's, I am glad I didn't have to be much of a fashion police. I was pretty impressed by these gorgeous women. Well done, ladies! 

So, lets have a look. 

Holland Roden

The 'Teen Wolf' star wore a Naeem Khan Resort 2014 champagne colored outfit which featured a ball skirt over cigarette pants and silver mirror beaded top. She completed the look with Rupert Sanderson peep toes.

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez has been giving us some great looks off late. The 'Come and get it' singer sizzled in a navy blue Atelier Versace Autumn 2013 gown complete with crystal embellishments and a thigh-high slit in a cutout that showed her sheer bustier underneath. She teams it up with Lorraine Schwartz emerald earrings.

Ellie Goulding

The British singer wore a Amato Haute Couture by Furne One turtleneck sleeveless fully studded floor length dress with a thigh-high slit. She paired it up with Brian Atwood pumps.

Miley Cyrus

The 'We can't stop' singer who made headlines for her performance was seen in vintage Dolce&Gabbana off shoulder crop top bejeweled with dotted rows of colorful bonbon like gemstones long sleeves and matching high-waisted leggings.The 'We can't stop' singer tried to pull off a 90's Gwen Stefani look with the two tiny buns. She wore Giuseppe Zanotti sky high black platform sandals and Loraine Schwartz jewels.

 

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift showed off her slim figure in a black crystallized Hervé Léger gown which had a knee high back slit. The 'I knew you were trouble' singer who won the Best Female Video VMA , accessorized with Lorraine Schwartz and Ofira jewelry, and Prada shoes.

Rita Ora

Rita Ora in Alexandre Vauthier Couture Fall 2013 baby-blue gown that featured a crystal embroidered long-sleeve top with a daring plunge and a dramatic feathered train with a thigh-high slit. The British beauty completed the look with black and gold ankle strap Louboutin sandals.

Katy Perry

Katy Perry was quite the animal in this turtle neck long sleeved gold embellished ( around the neckline and shoulders) Emanuel Ungaro Fall 2013 leopard print dress with a sexy thigh high slit. The 'Roar' singer also wore Anita Ko earrings and Céline heels.

Joan Smalls

The supermodel wore a Viktor & Rolf Fall 2013 white long sleeved mini dress with a drop waist and ruffled hemline that showed off her perfect enviable legs. She wore an edgy statement necklace and black leather strappy knew high Casadei boots.

Shailene Woodley

Shailene Woodley in Emilio Pucci Resort 2014. The Spectacular Now star flaunted her toned and tanned midriff in the black cropped top and purple kaleidoscope silk  and beaded V pattern fringe skirt. Her shoes were by Casadei.

Jennifer Hudson looked svelte in this strapless black and white houndstooth top and black leather pencil skirt by Dior that featured an asymmetrical draped waist. The singer/actress completed her look in Lorraine Schwartz jewels and Christian Louboutin pumps.

Ciara made heads turn in her sheer Givenchy Couture Fall 2010 second skin gloved gown that was adorned with sequined crystals embellishments and embroidery and feathers at the hemline.

Erin Wasson dared to bare in this black sheer Alexandre Vauthier Couture Fall 2013 dress that revealed her black bandeau bikini top and bottom.

Mega model Coco Rocha looked like a rockstar in a bling Fausto Puglisi black leather embossed jacket embellished in jewels and studs to zippers. The Face model mentor kept the rest of her look minimal with skinny black pants and pointy black pumps.

The 'Teen Wolf' actress was glam hot in red on the red carpet in this sculpted, strapless peplum ZAC Zac Posen Resort 2014 gown. She showed her wild side carrying a crimson studded leopard print Valentino clutch.

Lady Gaga kept things simple and quite subtle by her standards. Quite a change from the meat dress. The 'Applause' singer went all black  in this Prabal Gurung custom Spring 2014 satin gown.

Rihanna skipped the red carpet. The 'Stay' singer who was Best Female Video nominee attended the VMA's in a MC Lyte loose t-shirt with jeans from her Rihanna for River Island.

Paula Patton

Robin Thicke's better half outshone him. The 'Blurred Lines' singer's wife was wearing a Lever Couture Fall 2011 black strapless embellished high-shine gown with a thigh-high slit. She styled it with Giuseppe Zanotti pumps and David Yurman jewels.

Yes, Beyonce. She might have given the VMA's a miss but she was seen at the after party at PHD Dream Downtown wearing a Tom Ford lace-up dress, Brian Atwood ‘Floris’ pumps, a Giuseppe Zanotti gold metal clutch and her new bob cut hair.
